We started Smile with Siddy in 2013 to honour our wonderful son Siddy. We aim to fund research into the treatment and cure of Neuroblastoma and to raise awareness.
We are delighted to say we have now raised over £150,000, enabling us to fund research at Bristol University and the UK SIOPEN levy. This has been made possible by the incredible support we have received. We are so grateful to every one of you. We're exceedingly grateful to our generous
sponsors, patrons and trustees... |

Neuroblastoma Charities Unite To Beat Cancer
Two leading Neuroblastoma research funding charities have today announced that they will be uniting to beat childhood cancer. Neuroblastoma UK (NBUK) and Smile with Siddy will combine resources to drive forward research into Neuroblastoma, the second most common solid tumour in childhood.
In announcing the partnership Tony Heddon, Chair of Neuroblastoma UK (NBUK) said:
“NBUK and Smile with Siddy have worked successfully together in recent years in supporting research to find a cure and relive children suffering from Neuroblastoma. Combining our respective strengths will enable us to drive forward research into a disease that is responsible for 1 in 6 of all children’s cancer deaths.”
Flora Cahill, Secretary of Smile with Siddy said, “Smile with Siddy and NBUK share the same belief that the only way more children will survive this horrible disease is through research. Through this integration Smile with Siddy will continue to operate as a fund within NBUK, benefitting from their expertise in supporting ground breaking research, while we focus our energies on fund raising and spreading awareness.”

This is our wonderful son Siddy. He was brilliant fun, always smiling, happy and full of life. On November 7th 2012, aged 14 months, Siddy was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Neuroblastoma. At first his treatment seemed to be going well but around Christmas, test results showed that the chemotherapy wasn’t working. The consultants switched to a different form of chemo but his tumours continued to grow. Eventually the size of the primary tumour meant that his lungs could no longer cope. Siddy died on the 28th January 2013 aged just 17 months.

Smile with Siddy is a charity set up in memory of our lovely Siddy. The idea started with us (Mooey and Flora), sat in the lobby of the Bristol Children’s Hospital feeling heartbroken and wondering how best to honour Sid. Smile with Siddy and our wonderful supporters are raising money to fund research into treatment and cure of Neuroblastoma and to raise awareness. We were delighted to be granted charitable status on 24th April 2013.
Neuroblastoma is an extremely aggressive cancer that mainly affects children under the age of five. Most will already have widespread cancer at diagnosis because it is often confused with other childhood illnesses. Research is happening in the UK but there is still a desperate lack of funding for childhood cancer. Consequently, the treatment children have to endure is brutal and sadly many children still die of Neuroblastoma. The only way more children will survive this horrible disease is through research.
This project is researching how to eliminate cancer cells known to be involved in ’high risk’ Neuroblastoma. Siddy had high risk’ NB and children with this type of NB have a very poor prognosis.
In addition we are one of 5 charities funding the UK SIOPEN Levy. These funds are dedicated to the administrative support required to conduct clinical studies with children who have NB. SIOPEN is the trial that Sid participated in. New treatments are available to children as part of this project and many of the treatments on the Neuroblastoma Protocol have come from this trial. |
If you would like to be involved with a charity that aims to bring people together to have fun with family and friends whilst raising money for a very serious cause, then we are the charity for you. So please do get in touch by dropping us an email to flora@smilewithsiddy.co.uk or find us on Facebook.
We are incredibly proud that the little charity that we set up in memory of our darling Siddy has become such a fighting force of people who are committed to finding better and safer treatments for children with NB. |
